Learn Heavy Metal Speed Guitar From the Master
Like all aspiring guitarists that were once heavy metal fans, there comes a time when the typical guitar lessons aren’t enough to improve your technique to the level of some of the heavy metal guitar legends.
For decades, guitarists like Michael Angelo Batio of band Nitro fame and Speed Kills guitar instruction DVDs has been inspiring would-be metal guitarists into trying to master the speed picking techniques he helped make famous. However, for many intermediate players, the process of learning the techniques used in speed metal and others forms of heavy metal is one that is quite difficult with the lack of resources and quality instruction from the guys that have created and already mastered the style. This is precisely the reason why the instructional Speed Kills 1 Guitar Instruction DVD/ Guitar Lesson DVD has put Michael Angelo Batio on the map as the go to place for all guitarists interested in learning the skills it takes to shred like the pros.
There are many different aspects of playing fast, speed metal style riffs that touch on everything from improvisational jazz techniques to specifically designed alternative picking methods invented by heavy metal legends like Michael. These essential aspects vital to mastering the style are often not articulated by instructors in instructional DVDs making it hard for the player to grasp some of the more complex picking techniques and overall concepts. However, this is something that Batio has been able to overcome and truly provide some of the most in depth instruction on the market.
Upon first inspection, I was quite impressed with the breadth of information included in the Speed Kills 1 Guitar Instruction DVD/Guitar Lesson DVD. While all of the normal aspects of these types of DVDs were included such as one on one instruction and lessons for picking techniques, alternative tuning, diminished licks, and stylistic techniques, it also provides many things you might not expect. For example, the collection of lessons comes with printable PDF files that provide tabs and further instruction for all lessons taught on the DVDs. Helpful on screen tabs and hands on lessons further make it extremely easy for almost anyone to understand and follow along. There are also some great tips I found included that you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else such as personal advice from Michael Angelo Batio on preventing common injuries associated with playing speed metal.
There are many different programs, applications, and DVD lessons on the market these days, many of which made us skeptical of the others. However, the opportunity to learn techniques from a professional guitarist and heavy metal legend like Michael Angelo Batio is something that truly wasn’t possible before the internet age we are living in. The fact of the matter is we couldn’t even think of a better scenario or format for these DVDs that would make them a better experience for the aspiring heavy metal guitarist. These lessons are definitely a must have!

What DiMarzio pickups should I get?
I want to swap out the Seymour Duncan JB / ‘59 pickups on my Les Paul because they’re too trebly and not clear and articulate enough. My music style is something in the style of Dream Theater and The Black Mages with some thrash metal, classic rock and blues in the mix. I’m really wanting a pair of DiMarzios but I can’t decide on which. Which shuold I go for a good progressive rock/metal tone that helps my guitar bring out that milky, ballsy sound?
I know John Petrucci, guitarist for dream theater uses DiMarzio pickups.
I recommend watching youtube reviews. It’ll show you the sound and tone of the pickups
For instance there is a comparison between Seymour Duncan Blackouts and EMG 81’s and 85’s.
It shows you the difference in their tone… blah blah blah blah.
So yeah.. i recommend checking it out. I personally like DiMarzio Evolutions.
