How can you safely secure dogs in a pick up truck? We will in future get a roof attachment but what can we do ?

We have a cage already so thats good. I have ordered a rubber mat for the bed of the truck & i have ordered heavy duty bungee cords as suggested!
Only thing now is to fit something onto the truck to be able to tie down the cage!!
I have to say i wouldnt have thought about putting in a cage once i had the roof on, i was intending just for the rubber mat & the roof!
We have an estate car and they are fine in that, i know the pick up will be slightly bigger but with the rubber matt i thought they would be fine.
Thanks for all the pointers though, i do want to make sure my dogs are safe! Getting the pick up will allow the dogs to go with us on day trips & have fun playing in the water etc. Our estate car is always a mess after the dogs are in it & we tend to avoid taking them, we can just power wash the pick up!!
As others have stated it is best to keep the animals with you in the front. If you absolutely cannot then tie down a crate or secure them with a leash to the back of the cab so they are sitting at the front of the truck bed. Be sure that you don’t leave enough slack for them to hang themselves.
I knew a police officer once who told me horrible stories about there being too much slack and dogs getting dragged to their deaths (also happened to a friend of mine) or just hanging themselves but it is equally dangerous to not secure them at all. Like I said, it is best to keep them in the front with you.
Also, when you do get a roof for the truck bed you will still need to secure them with a leash or secured crate.
