It’s no accident that among the great albums Jerry Jeff Walker has made, most of them have been recorded in front of a live audience. If you want to get the feel of the rowdy Texas music scene of the early to-mid-’70s, look no further than ¡Viva Terlingua!, a rowdy, goat-ropin’ classic of sing-along mayhem recorded in the tiny town of Lukenbach in the summer of 1973. Walker marshals his Lost Gonz…

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton

$4.38

Oklahoma-born country newcomer Blake Shelton recently made a big splash with “Austin,” his first hit single, a cleverly rendered love ballad built as much on lyric contrivance as inspiration. But Shelton’s self-titled debut CD, produced by the great veteran country songwriter Bobby Braddock, also contains quite a few harder-hitting, meatier tunes. “Old Red,” for instance, is a twangy and resolutel…

Horse Whisperer [VHS]

Horse Whisperer [VHS]

For director Robert Redford the trick was directing himself. The Oscar-winning director (Ordinary People, Quiz Show) says that he is one kind of actor (in the moment) and a different kind of director (more controlling). Whatever the problems, Redford has worked it out beautifully in this leisurely paced adaptation of Nicholas Evans’s bestseller. When the prized horse of New York magazine editor’s …

One of the greatest basketball games in NCAA history is immortalized in Glory Road, an engaging sports movie that dramatizes a pivotal milestone in the racial integration of college athletics. Deanna Durbin Sweetheart Pack (Three Smart Girls / Something In the Wind / First Love / It Started with Eve / Can’t Help Singing / Lady on a Train)

$6.63

Universal wasted no time in exploiting 14-year-old Deanna Durbin’s star power; after screening the dailies from her feature debut, Three Smart Girls, studio execs expanded Durbin’s supporting role and doubled the budget. Building your home can be a very fulfilling experience. While it can be a very complicated process, the rewards may be worth it when you have a plan and a clear idea of what you want when you decide to build your custom home in Austin. The home building process entails long and careful planning.

Financing

Financing is the biggest concern when you are ready to build your new home. You want to think about the money you spend on a monthly basis. Bills can pile up and not having a clear idea of how much money is coming in and being spent can put you in a real bind once you start the home building process. Go over your financing options and see if you can afford mortgage payments. Some home builders also offer other financing options that allow you to save money.

Location, Location, Location

When you have your budget all worked out in your head, you want to start looking for locations or lots in Austin where you want to put down roots. Finding the perfect place to settle down requires some serious thinking. You want to consider the proximity of your home to your place of work and the accessibility of shopping areas and other areas that you frequently go to.

Aside from these considerations, you also want to know if your lot is located near schools. Even though you do not have children, having your property close to a school will increase the market value of your home. Since your custom home is probably one of the biggest investments you will ever make, it is helpful if the value of that investment increases over time. The development of the surrounding areas of your home is also an important consideration for ensuring a good return on your investment.

The Right Home Builder

Choosing the right home builder is very important. There are various ways to find a home building company you want to work with. You can go online and look at the portfolios of different home building companies. Asking Realtors for their professional recommendations will help you decide on the home builders you want to work with.

Look for years of experience, expertise and samples of their work so that you can better choose the most reputable company to build your dream home. When you commission a custom home builder in Austin, you want the company you hire to create a creative and fully functional floor plan. Different elements of your home must be thoroughly discussed with the home builder you choose to work with.

Affordability is also another factor to consider. Find a home builder who can work with the budget that you give them. Custom home builders also allow you to modify floor plans to suit your taste and style. Find excitement in your home building process with seasoned home builders assisting you every step of the way.

Kyle Anderson of Anderson Custom Homes will personally see to every detail in designing and building your new home. His personal involvement with every project ensures that each project runs smoothly and on time. He brings his hands-on approach, years of experience, and passion for home building to every project. Kyle Anderson and Anderson Custom Homes will work closely with you to create your dream home. That assurance is what clients have come to appreciate, and you can be sure to expect it as well.

planning on moving to texas within the next year, pros and cons?

i’m thinking about moving to austin, and i’ll be 16.
i’d also like to work for a year down there before going to college/culinary program of some sort.
i currently live in western massachusetts, and can’t stand living here for much longer. the sooner i leave, the better.

but anyways, what are the pros and cons of living in austin/texas in general?

Austin is beautiful.

Certain areas are ghetto. true. that’s every city.
just be careful where you live. if you do apartment searching and whatnot, i can tell you if it’s decent area or not.

people are cool there. its very diverse. and you always meet nice people.

lot of hippies. lot of weed. lots of liberals.

great malls. some suck. but the good ones are freakin amaaazing.

good music scene. tons of concerts.

good food.

Downtown is great.
most people go almost every weekend. not sure what 16 yr old can do there though… i’ve only been goin since i’ve been 21..

living around campus is expensive.

tons of jobs, but at 16, not sure what’s available. i know for my age, and for what I want to do, there are tons of UT grads who are getting those jobs.

i’d say go for restaraunts or something. tons of those every where.

there are a lot of nice lakes. lots of places to go running.
it’s just overall very beautiful scenery.

I live in New Braunfels, about 40 miles from there. San Marcos is an ok town too, it’s about 30 miles from Austin, if you’re interested in a bit smaller version of Austin. it also has a college, Texas State university. it’s a little better to start off here maybe, if you’re movin on your own. and it’s close to New Braunfels, which has the popular rivers -Comal and Guadalupe, that everyone goes to every chance they get, and 4 lakes around here too.
and probably more jobs for younger crowd. less college grads getting them..
