Are All Roller Doors Created Equal?
Are you looking to build a new garage or replace your existing garage door? A roller door may be the perfect solution as there are a number of great benefits over other types of garage doors. But, like all purchases, you get what you pay for and a cheaper garage door generally costs you more over its lifetime.
There are a number of features you should look for with your new roller garage door to ensure you get the right one for your circumstances.
A noisy garage door has probably disturbed many of you at some time, most likely when you were asleep! To avoid noise issue, choose a door that uses features like a glide block and roller for quiet and smooth operation and rubber coated guides stops to prevent nasty metal on metal contact. Ask your professional installer to either show you a working example of the door so you can hear how quiet it is, or ask if there are existing clients you can talk to for an independent opinion.
The climate you live in will also influence the type of material your garage door should be made of. Cheaper materials may not within strong winds, harsh sunlight made quickly fade the paint, and, if the door is not weather sealed, you could end up with leaves, dirt or even pools of water blown in under the door creating a mess in your garage. Repainting your garage door on a regular basis to keep your property looking good will cost you time and money, while a door that has been damaged by strong winds may no longer have the perfect fit require for optimal and quiet operation. The correct weather seal will reduce the chances of unwanted water or mess blowing into the garage and will also give a better fit if the garage floor is not level.
All garage doors require regular maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation and your professional installer can tell you what is needed and how often or provide a service for you. However, even with the right maintenance parts may wear out quickly if they are not made up of durable materials. Even if parts are not too expensive, the time or cost in replacing them may cost you more during the lifetime of the door. Look for roller garage doors that use pressed steel castellated drum wheels or engineering grade plastic and use a combination of precision springing and pressed steel drum giving a consistent balance to the roller mechanism. Does the roller door’s spring meet or exceed the Published Standards for garage doors?
Do look at the safety and security features of your new roller door. Does the door you are considering buying have features like locking bar end covers to prevent injuries to fingers (this can be very important if you have small children) or steel doorstops. Will the rolling mechanism be of such quality to allow the roller door to be opened part way and stay there without rolling shut? How secure is the roller door, does it have features such as double bar locking action, or pick resistant locks? Is the centre lift lock at a comfortable height, made of durable material and comfortable to touch in the heat of summer or the cold of winter?
By carefully researching your new garage roller door, you should get the right door for your requirements, so look for doors that meet or exceed given standards, are quiet (especially if it is needed for a residential situation), have durable components and will be value for money over the entire lifetime of the door.

How do I fix an Envision Dirt Devil brush roll so belt quits slipping off?
After only vacuuming for 1 or 2 minutes, the belt will slip off my envision vacuum. The belt is new and the right size and is tight on the vacuum. I did a search and it comes up that the cause is most likely the brush roller. How do I repair the brush roller so that it will not cause the belt to come off without buying a new roller? I am poor and cant afford the $20 right now and my carpet is pretty gross!
you need to take the beater bar out and clean and lubricate the bushings.
