3 Possible Baseball SP-RP Trades – Which one should I accept???
I’ve had the following three RP-SP trades offered to me in a 6 team Roto League. I’m REALLY trying to pick up another decent SP:
1) Papelbon for either Haren/Verlander
2) Nathan for Matsuzaka
3) Jenks for Halladay
My Rotation is currently: Harang (pending trade); Smoltz; Carmona; Hudson (pending waivers); Liriano; Papelbon; Nathan; Jenks.
In a perfect world, I’d like to hang on to Papelbon, but it seems like he might be the only piece that can pull in a major SP. Is a Nathan/Jenks tandem enough of a bullpen? Otherwise, is Halladay enough of a pitching upgrade to be competitive? I don’t think the Matsuzaka for Nathan deal is very good value. I don’t think I can afford not to accept one of these three deals.
Any help is appreciated!!
1). Papelbon is the #1 closer in the MLB. Having Nathan and Jenks as your closers are definetely still good, so this wouldn’t be a problem. I would personally do Papelbon for Haren, but I’m pretty sure you could go after Sabathia or Webb.
2). I really am not a fan of this trade. I think you could get a better SP for Nathan, even though I still think DIce-K is great.
3). This is the trade I would do. This would leave you with two of the four top closers, and you’d upgrade your SP. Halladay will definetely get you wins, and he’s got a great ERA and WHIP.
