Rotary Laser Levels
One of the important parts of making a project is preparation. You have to make the layout first before you can really start doing anything. The faster you can make them the earlier you can start and finish the project. You have to do it quickly without sacrificing accuracy. In order to do this you need to invest a good and reliable tools or equipment. When it comes to leveling, the rotary laser level is a nice thing to have compared to traditional leveling tool. It allows you to quickly do the job with high accuracy both in indoor and outdoor application. The first thing you do when you are using a laser level is to setup it first, depending on the model of your existing unit, you can manually adjust it by turning the screw at the base of the unit and by looking at the bubble or if you have an automatic leveling laser level you can automatically adjust it by pressing a button. Once setup you can now begin doing the layout and start working. One of the brands that most people trust when it comes to laser levels is DeWalt. They have a complete line of laser levels including the 4 Beam Laser Level, the Chalkline Line Laser Level, 3 Beam Stick Laser Level, Laser Plumb, Automatic Optical Level and more.
One famous product of DeWalt is their rotary laser level particularly the DW073KD Cordless Rotary Laser Kit. The whole package includes all the things you need including the rechargeable 18 volt battery, a one-hour charger, a laser target card, a digital laser detector and clamp, laser enhancement glasses, and the heavy duty kit box. Other accessories are also available and sold separately like the 11-Threaded Flat Head Tripod and 13-Foot Telescoping Rod in feet, inches and eighths. When you purchase the unit it usually comes with the 18 volts battery but you can also use other voltage ratings like 9.6 and 14.4 volts and any standard DeWalt battery from 9.6 and 18 volts. This is good for DeWalt cordless tools fans because you can use their battery just in case you forgot to recharge the laser levels battery. It uses a manual leveling system like the one used in traditional transit levels and accurate to +/- ¼ inches per 100 feet. The accuracy is improved as you go nearer to the unit. The rotary laser features a dual side by side diode that generates an extremely bright, visible beam and variable speed from 0 to 600 rpm so you can easily adjust it for increased visibility. Other features include a protected rotary head and side impact roll cage for increased durability, ideal for rugged and demanding outdoor jobsites. One of the common problem with other rotary levels is when the unit is bump after it has been set, giving them false reading, ruining the work and wasting precious time and money in rework. The DeWalt DW073KD is equipped with a built-in sensor that detects if the unit if moved triggering an alarm and informing the user that it needs readjustment.
If you are looking for a more sophisticated rotary laser level, you might want to try the CST/Berger 57-LMH-CUPK Electronic Self-Leveling Horizontal Single Beam Rotary Laser Level. Setting up this unit can be done with a touch of a button. Using electronic sensors interfaced with motors and precision software, it automatically levels itself without needing for re-leveling and rechecks. It is very accurate and can achieve 3/32″ at 100 feet. It can also be operated via remote control, so no need to actually go near the unit just to make some few adjustments. It’s a bit expensive and cost almost twice the price of the Dewalt DW073KD. But with the added features and accessories like the tripod and aluminum builders rod justifies the price.

Ok to use self leveling compound on garage floor?
My garage floor has a few low spots, as well as nicks and small cracks. I also like the smooth finish of self leveling compound i’ve used before. Is it okay to use on the garage floor and eventually park on it? I’m not sure what strength it has, but basically i want a nice 1/4″ skim coat over the existing concrete surface.
yeah its most likely not going to hold up, worth a try if you have money to spare, you might want to consider grinding it level.. a lot more work but it will be better in the long run. If you do self level you’ll want to seal it after to keep the moister out.
