Remember the old joke about the guy who claimed to be the world’s greatest animal trainer because he taught a cat to come on command? If you don’t remember it, not to worry. It just means that you’re not as old as the joke.
People who love cats adore them for their independence. People who hate cats can’t stand them for the very same reason. Some psychoanalyst could probably come up with an explanation for the psychological make up of cat lovers vs. cat haters, but that isn’t the purpose of this article. Fact is, cats have been hated, loved, feared and cherished for centuries.
Jokes and cartoons about cats, both pro and con, abound. Perhaps you remember a cartoon by Gary Larson cherished equally by cat lovers and cat haters alike. In it, a cat is standing in a shower stall. A large tongue hangs out of the shower wall as the cat scrubs itself clean.
Cat haters come up with organizations like Cat Haters Of the World (C.H.O.W.), which sells cat hater shirts, mugs, magnets and similar stuff. Cat lovers form groups like Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah. Best Friends is said to be the largest no kill animal sanctuary in the United States, and probably the world for that matter. Not bad for a community of 3600 people. Of course, Best Friends cares for more than cats. It cares for abandoned dogs, rabbits, horses, birds and more.
Many cat haters really do hate cats, while others just like the twisted humor. One man who you might mistake for a cat hater really isn’t. He sells wooden arts and crafts. Just as a joke, he once made a wooden replica of a cat run over by a car. Since the wood was flat, so was the cat. It was painted to appear as if tire tracks were had hit the animal. Although the flat cat was the only piece of its kind, he lost customers because of it. He had people walk into his shop, see the wooden cat hanging on the wall, and tell him that they would never do business with him again because of it.
Since the flat cat didn’t sell immediately, the man eventually donated the wooden replica to a private club so he would quit losing customers. An interesting sidebar to this story is that the guy has saved and cared for abandoned cats, and rescued a sack full of cats that were about to be drowned by an evil neighbor. He actually loves all kinds of animals. He would be the first person to turn in anyone he saw torturing or intentionally inflicting injuries upon helpless animals. You probably would have guessed that the guy is a cat hater, but you would have been wrong.
Some people who claim to be cat lovers may be no such thing. Neighbors in one apartment complex complained about a horrible stench emanating from one of the apartments. When police officers investigated, they found a woman with more than 40 cats in her tiny apartment. Cat feces, cat food, and trash were strewn everywhere. Animal control officers had to remove the cats for the health and welfare of the cats, the woman and the neighbors.
So who really is the cat lover, the man who makes jokes about flat cats, but rescues them when necessary, or the woman who professes her love for her cats, but is actually unwilling or unable to care for them properly?

I dont have a laser point pen but my cats love to chase their feather on a string toy and they never seem to tire of it! I get worn out before them, they are certainly more fit than me I can’t keep up with them. lol
