Nobody in their right mind will disagree with the fact that low profile tires just plain look good. Accompanied with a shiny set of chrome wheels, the car you drive will certainly catch some eyes. Who wants the ugly stock tires and wheels that come with a new car?!
One problem: low profile tires and chrome wheels are expensive and require you to dump money into your car on a regular basis!
I bought a Honda Civic several years ago that had come used. It was exactly what I wanted! All of the features were there, gas mileage great, and it came with some nice chrome rims as well.
“Perfect,” I thought to myself. “This is exactly what I want!”
And then I had to replace the tires…
I had no idea that tires to fit my particular rim was going to cost more that TWICE the amount of regular tires. Instead of paying close to $200 to replace all four, I found myself writing a check for about $550. “Wow,” I muttered to myself. “I had no idea.” And this is exactly why I’m writing this article.
A little over a year later (after numerous flats and other tire problems), I found myself back at the dealer getting another tire fixed. While the customer service rep. helped me fix my tire, he politely informed me that the life of my tires had nearly run out. Running his fingers along the tread, he recommended I get my tires replaced in the next couple of months.
WHAT? Again?! But I just put tires on a little over a year ago, right?
Low profile tires don’t last nearly as long as regular ones do. So not only do you pay more for them, but you’ll be paying more often too, as regular tires have a much longer road life.
Trust me- if you’re looking to invest in low profile tires, just know that you’ll be paying for it; I’m living proof!

What kind and size of wheels/tires will fit a 93 Subaru impreza sedan?

Your wheels have a 5X100 bolt pattern with about a 55mm offset. Those are the main things to watch for. What do you want in the new wheels? Are you wanting to go bigger? Wider? If the car is stock, then Something like a 16X7 or 7.5 with some 205/55 or maybe some 225/50’s would look nice. Or if you want to go bigger, 17X7 or 7.5 with some 215/45 or maybe some 225/45’s. With some fender work and coilover, then there are more possibilities like some 18X8 with some 235’s or even 245’s. But it all depends on what you are looking for.
