Using a ride-on lawn mower can be a dangerous business; if you don’t know what you’re about, or even if you have a momentary lapse in concentration, the results can be catastrophic as some unfortunate souls have found to their misfortune. We’ve mapped out a few pointers here to help get you safely on your way and live to mow another day.
1. Keep the mowing area free of bystanders. If a person enters the operating area in which the machine is in action, then stop the machine.
2. Don’t carry passengers or take people for a joy ride or guided tour of the lawn.
3. Don’t mow in reverse unless it’s absolutely necessary; this is when most accidents occur. It goes without saying that you always want to look where you are about to go before you actually go.
4. Never direct discharged grass in anyone’s direction and avoid discharging material against a wall or similar obstruction as it can ricochet, and fly back at the operator. Never forget Einstein’s theory that states that for every force going one way there’s an equal force going back in the other.
5. When crossing gravel surfaces or similar disengage the blades.
6. Before operating the machine make sure that all the safety devices, such as the discharge guard are in place and working.
7. Before making a turn ease off on the throttle and slow down, this isn’t Le Mans.
8. A running machine should never be left unattended. Before dismounting from your ride-on mower, stop the blades from turning, apply the parking brake, stop the engine, and remove the key from the ignition; preferably, in that order.
9. When you are not actually mowing disengage the blades, before cleaning the machine or unclogging the discharge guard, stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete rest.
10. Unless you have good artificial light don’t operate the machine at night or when your vision is restricted.
11. Do not operate the machine when you are not feeling too well, or under the influence of drugs or similar brain numbing substances.
12. If you are operating the machine near a roadway keep a look out for traffic.
13. If you have to load the machine into a trailer or truck for transportation take extra care.
14. Your eyesight’s a precious thing; always wear some sort of eye protection when operating the machine.
15. Make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for wheel weights or counterweights.

concerning travel trailer set up….when the trailer is leveled and tire blocks are in place i know that?
it is good to use two jacks in the rear of the trailer to make it more stable along with of course the tongue jack, what I’m wondering is,is it typical to need to use two in the front as well even with the tongue jack? the problem im having is the trailer still sorta wobbles back and forth more then i would really like it two even with the jacks in place it is a very small trailer so im thinking that people walking around in it makes it move around alot more then a larger trailer would, i am consideriong buying two more scissor jacks but dont want to waste the money if this isnt actually going to solve the problem, ive noticed that some of the wobble is in the jacks themselves and the tires allow it to move some to,so would extra jacks stop the wobble or are travel trailers just always going to be that way?
Two jacks in front will help alot. If it’s still wobbly try jacking it up just a bit higher to take the load off the tires and suspension.
