What is a skid to the driver? Slippery conditions like water puddles, sand and pebbles may cause a skid. In general, skids are caused by a driver’s error. Turning too sharply, entering a turn too quickly, or use excessive acceleration or braking, will cause higher chances of skidding. Car brakes must be maintained and properly adjusted.
Let us look at two common types of skids. “Oversteer” (or fishtailing) is the front wheels taking a shorter path than desired and the rear-end breaks loose and fishtails. This is the result of power and side forces causing traction loss on the rear wheels; too much power applied for the existing steering input and resulting in the side forces causing the rear wheels to loose traction, often as a result of trying to accelerate out of a turn. “Understeer” (or plowing) occurs when too much steering input for the power a driver is applying (too sharp an angle between the tires and the direction of motion), and the front wheels skids ahead.
To counteract this, first thing to do is lift your foot off the gas pedal and brake lightly if you are brake not hard, Swiftly turn the steering wheel in the direction you want the front of the car to go or the direction of your intended travel. As your vehicle turns back in the correct direction, counter steer in time to stop the turning and stay on your desired path. Learn to do this promptly or the vehicle will continue to turn past your intended direction, and you may then skid in that direction. Double jeopardy and you have to redo your actions again.
A skid recovery may be more difficult if for these two situation. When you are driving either a front-wheel drive vehicle or a rear-wheel drive with the four-wheel drive engaged, a quick reduction on the accelerator can cause a result in a loss of control that is similar to what happens when the brake pedal is depressed where the front wheels are slowed faster than the rear wheels increasing the over-steer skid problem. If this happens, shift to neutral until the tire grips. I have tried applying steady pressure on the gas pedal and drive out of the skid, only if you are driving at a ‘controllable’ speed.
For an under-steer skid, slightly reduce your steering input and slow down (without heavy braking) in order to regain your directional control as the tires regrip the road surface. In this skid, reduce speed as fast as possible without using your brakes, so that you can regain a grip on the road and complete your turn. Using slight decrease in steering input, slowing down, might prevent the skid from occurring.
The techniques discussed here might happen but try not to practice on a public road. Register yourself in defensive driving schools. Alternatively go to a public race track.

Approximately how long are the skid marks of the car that is going 65 miles per hour?
At the scene of a traffic accident, a police investigator must determine the speed of both vehicles. The investigator uses the formula s=sqroot 51 where s represents speed, measured in miles per hour, and l represents the length of the skid marks, measured in feet. Approximately how long are the skid marks of the car that is going 65 miles per hour?
In the formula, put the value of s and you get your answer
sqrt5*l=s
or l=s/sqrt5
=65/2.236
=29.07 ft
