mercury marine is garbage?
i have a mercury 150 on my 19 foot Ranger bassboat. i recently decided to rebuild it. only to find out the powerhead was changed before i bought it and when i ordered a service manual i had to give them the serial number off the lower unit(1995 model) powerhead that needs rebuilding is a 1983. so i got the useless 1995 manual and it was ripped open DURING delivery and it says on the sticker no returns if opened. now they wont take it back, without a restocking fee of $36. this is the greedy crap that pisses me off. they charge that much to restock it if its open and they send it opened. needless to say im buying an Evinrude and using this Mercury as an ANCHOR. ill just need a warn winch to get it back up.
It’s good, I think, that you’ve expressed yourself. I’ve been around boats and motors for years, and I can understand your frustration but, I know Mercury and Evinrude/Johnson both make good outboards. I’m quite sure they didn’t switch powerheads.
